Press Release - Launch of Project 'Made in China-中国制造'

The Confucius Institute at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh), in collaboration with the Department of Creative Design and Fashion, International University of Greece (IUG), announces the commencement of the 'Made in China-中国制造' Project. This project comprises three parts: 'Hand-made,' involving the creation of over 20 garments inspired by Chinese culture; 'Custom-made,' an interdisciplinary conference on Chinese culture; and 'Tailor-made,' an exhibition featuring the designed garments.

The interdisciplinary conference with the title 'Made in China-中国制造' will be held online on September 17-18, 2021. It will be accompanied by an exhibition of garments and designs at Le’ Cercle de Salonique (Vas. Irakleiou 7, Thessaloniki), starting on October 1st, 2021. Following that, the exhibition will move to the Confucius Institute at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Thessaloniki, at dates and times to be announced and posted on the Institute's website and the group's media channels.

Taking the Chinese culture as a starting point and in the context of the "2021 Year of Culture and Tourism between Greece and China," the conference aims to facilitate a fruitful exploration and creative dialogue concerning the role and significance of the principles that have governed methods of production in China over the centuries. It will shed light on various aspects of Chinese culture and tradition, as embraced by researchers from both the Western world and those with Chinese origins.

The showcased clothing has been designed and crafted by graduates of the Department of Creative Design and Fashion, within the School of Design at the International University of Greece (IUG).
